Relocating to China Lake: How to Compare Ridgecrest Homes From a Distance

When you have one weekend to house hunt before starting work at China Lake, five well-chosen tours give you more to work with than fifteen rushed stops. Before you book the trip, pick the two or three things a listing photo cannot settle for you.

Test the commute you will actually drive

Use your expected work entrance as the destination. A map pin for the installation can give you a different route. During your visit, drive from a finalist to the entrance you expect to use at your normal arrival time. Check current access instructions with your employer.

Ask for a live walkthrough

Have your agent start at the street, walk through the front door and keep the camera running between rooms. If you work nights, ask where the bedroom sits in relation to the street. If you own a truck, request the garage opening and interior measurements before counting it as a parking space.

Compare the systems behind the photos

Ridgecrest listings may mention central air, evaporative cooling or both. Ask which rooms each system serves, when it was serviced and whether the seller has records. If a listing mentions solar, request the ownership or financing documents. Put unanswered questions beside each address so you know what to check on tour day.
